Scouting Report - Alexander Briedl
Apparently Aberdeen are looking at Alexander Briedl, so what should we expect if he comes in…
Name: Alexander Briedl
Age: 24
Position: Central Midfielder
Club: Blau Weiss Linz
Nationality: Austrian
Transfermarkt value: £606,000
Alexander Briedl is a 24 year old Austrian defensive midfielder currently playing for recently relegated Austrian Bundesliga side Blau Weiss Linz. He’s a former Austrian U21 international, he’s played over 120 games in the top 2 tiers of Austrian football over the past 6 years. His contract is currently up, so he’d be a free transfer.
When putting his name into the data platform I use, the first thing I noticed is that he is the 2nd best “Number 6” in the Austrian Bundesliga, which is very impressive alongside sides like Salzburg and Sturm Graz.
Looking at the data numbers, it’s also really impressive. He’s a really strong winner of the ball and smart when in possession. It really reminds me of Ylber Ramadani, and the similarity of him also playing for a relegated team before moving to us.
He’s a player who will always sit back and he’s a really hard working defensive midfielder. He doesn’t do anything special, but as said above, on the ball he’s simple but really effective and smart.
Don’t expect him to do much in the attacking side of his game, he prefers to give the ball to more creative and dangerous players. I also wouldn’t expect him to have marauding runs from deep into the attacking play, he’s not a progressive dribbler.
Overall, I think we’d be signing a really good player, he’s 24 so still has some development too and has the ability to be turned over for a few million in the future. I can’t see past the similarities of Ylber Ramadani and I think it’s a profile we’ve really missed since he’s left. On a free transfer, I believe this is a real non-brainer.
